Which fund would be best for SWP as I am retired

I am retired from Bank of India. I wish to invest and opt for SWP. Kindly suggest a minimum investment say Rs. One or Two lakhs. Which best fund for SWP of Rs. 5000 per month for 20 years. What would be the maturity value after SWP for twenty 21 years?

Since you are retired, we suggest that you can invest in balanced funds for SWP.

However, drawing Rs 5,000 per month is very high. We suggest that you should not draw more than 8-9% annually during the initial years. Therefore, if you are investing Rs 2 Lakhs, you can draw upto Rs 1,500 per month (i.e.@9% per annum). The other suggestion would be to draw the monthly fixed amount through SWP after 12 months from the date of investment as the same would be free from capital gains taxes.

As there are no assured return on mutual funds, there is no assured maturity value or maturity date. Balanced Funds are open ended funds and you can invest any time and hold till such time you wish. If you refer the historic returns, balanced fund have given more than 12% annual returns over long period.

Therefore, you can set an expectation about the value after 20-21 years, post withdrawal of monthly SWP, based on these assumed returns.

Hope the above helps! Thanks fro writing to Advisorkhoj !!
